Habitat 4 Humanity
By: Division 4 Lt. Governor Himal Bamzai-Wokhlu
At 7:30 AM on Saturday September 17th, thirteen Division 4 Key Clubbers and I arrived at 101 NW 12th Street shovel and paintbrush in hand. Over the next six hours, we would help build a home.
First, more experienced volunteers gave us construction training. Then, we worked together to clear the jungle in the backyard, paint the house, and level the lawn. By the end, we were exhausted, but all of us could agree that there was something satisfying about doing meaningful work with your hands. With that, we planned our next build.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit that builds decent, affordable homes in partnership with families around the world. In order to contribute sweat equity, Habitat homeowners build their homes alongside volunteers [1]. Habitat builds are an exciting project to foster community engagement at your local Key Club. In our division, H4H was an exciting kickoff service event, setting the tone for a year of humanitarianism, community building, and empathy.
Are you interested in coordinating a build in your area? Reach out to your local H4H volunteer coordinator to see if there are any available slots.
Happy Building, Happy Service!
