Service Leadership Programs (SLPs) are Kiwanis-affiliated programs that empower students and community members to develop leadership skills through service, including programs such as Key Club, Circle K, K-Kids, Builders Club, and Aktion Club.
Mini-Grants provide eligible SLPs with a simple way to receive financial support for service projects, helping clubs turn their service ideas into action. This information will help Key Clubs and other SLPs understand what Mini-Grants are, why they may be a good funding option, and how to apply.
SLP Mini-Grants are administered and processed entirely by the Florida Kiwanis Foundation. Key Club International and the Florida District of Key Club do not administer, approve, or process SLP Mini-Grant applications or funding. We provide this information only as a resource for clubs. All questions regarding eligibility, applications, funding, deadlines, or application status should be directed to the Florida Kiwanis Foundation.
1. What is a Mini-Grant?
A Mini-Grant is a designated amount of funding provided to support service projects carried out by Service Leadership Programs (SLPs). In this case, Mini-Grants can help Key Clubs receive financial support for eligible service projects without having to go through a lengthy funding process.
A Mini-Grant can help cover eligible project expenses, allowing a club to turn a service idea into action while reducing the amount the club needs to raise or contribute on its own.
Eligible applicants can request up to $500 for a service project. Because funding is limited, clubs should carefully consider their project needs and request an amount that is appropriate for the project.
2. What do I actually have to do to apply?
The Mini-Grant application is designed to be simple and manageable. Applicants will complete a short application that is two pages long. The application includes basic information about their club and the applicant, followed by information about the proposed service project.
Before applying, clubs should be prepared to explain what their service project is, what they hope to accomplish, and how the requested funding will help make the project possible. Applicants should also make sure all required information is complete and obtain any necessary signatures before submitting the application.
Taking a few minutes to gather this information beforehand can make the application process even easier and help prevent delays in processing.
Ready to Apply?
Complete both the SLP Mini-Grant Application but make sure you follow the SLP Mini-Grant Guidelines!
3. Why should I apply now?
Mini-Grant funding is limited. The Florida Kiwanis Foundation has a designated fund for the SLP Mini-Grant program, meaning there is a limited amount of money available to award to eligible service projects.
Because funding is limited, clubs should not wait until the last minute to apply. Applications should be submitted as soon as a club has a qualifying service project and is ready to request funding. Applying early gives your club the best opportunity to receive funding before the available funds are exhausted.
If your club already has a service project in mind, start preparing your application now. A simple, well-prepared application can put your club one step closer to receiving up to $500 to support your service project.
